From One Life Chapter To The Next

My Life Summed Up In A Digital Short

Sometimes life is a cyclone, with events and happenings swirling so quickly balance becomes difficult. I’m currently swirling in my own mini twister, so throw me a bone and allow me a Lazy Blog Day. It’s been a while since I’ve invoked one.

I posted the following video on Facebook, but at the time, I hadn’t yet announced my birth on that platform, and the video got about as much play as a middle-aged woman. So I’m reposting it here. It’s one of my favorite Saturday Night Live Digital Shorts and stars Andy Samberg and Paul Rudd, who could probably make me laugh just by yawning and blinking. The video is called “Stumblin’” and is therefore apropos to my book-marketing approach thus far. Enjoy!

Wow…I think that’s everyone’s life in 2012! My life goal is to achieve the exact opposite of that! Paul McCartney is a mighty good sport :) I laughed out loud at your middle aged woman comment :)

This was actually last Thursday’s post, but it is probably more fitting for a Monday. Especially one in which the Eastern part of the country is bracing for a storm. Hope it’s not too horrible. Thanks for stopping by!

about as much play as a middle-aged woman, oh that made me laugh. And your comment on my blog about your hair…love your humor!

Now you’ve got to do a video of you stumbling around too! My brother used to walk around like that. He’d bang into walls just walking down the hallway. Hope you have lots of fun with that tornado. You might feel tossed around for a while but I’m sure you’ll land in a fairy tale place.

Does this fairy tale place have chocolate? I hope so…

I joked to an earlier commenter that I wished I had the nerve to create a video clip like this of me stumblin’ along marketing. But I’d be way too chicken.

Of course! If it’s a true fairy tale place, it would have to be covered in chocolate. I’d probably be too chicken too but it looks like a lot of fun to do!

Great video. Thanks for the chuckles. Hey, you got to be doing something right–from here, things are looking pretty good for you. :)

I wish I was the type of person who could put together a clip like this of me stumblin’ around while I schlep my book around, but sadly, I’m not. Then again, it would probably only get a couple You Tube hits. On the other hand, the dork factor might guarantee a few more…

How funny. And I love that Rudd (?)–the guy getting out of the bed–looks ridiculously like one of my son’s friends, right down to the comical personality. Enjoy your Lazy Blog Day. You’ve earned it, I’m sure.

Stumblin’! I can’t believe I’ve never used that word to describe how my kids walk every day. Well, now I know and I’ll be using it!

I feel caught in a tornado too on my end, mostly on the personal end but it messes up the professional side too since my brain is too distracted to work well. Nobody wants to be stuck in this situation, but we just have to deal with it, right?

I’ve had a couple of lazy blogging days. You’re perfectly allowed. I like those two SNL guys, too. Hope your marketing is coming together. That’s a lot on your plate.

Thank you. I’m starting phase two now that the paperback is out. But I don’t mind a few stumbles, as long as I mostly stay upright.

It was a lazy blog day, but sadly not a lazy day. And now I’m bushed. I think I’ll reward myself with a couple hours of mindless TV tonight. In fact, I have an episode of SNL taped, but sadly, no more Andy Samberg.

Maybe the two of us should make our own stumblin’ video. It might be popular on You Tube, but sadly, probably not for the reasons we want it to be. But I’m open for being a laughing stock. How about you?…

We should all get a few lazy blog days. Actually, sometimes I take six in a row… I don’t let myself go more than seven though. And Paul Rudd is so cute and so funny. Easy to root for him.

P.S. Do I get to use sentence fragments on lazy blog days?

That video shows how we go through most of life…stumbling. We learn along the way (but hopefully don’t knock that many people over).

That was a lot fun! :+) Funny Video! Did I see Big foot too? I may have to just play that video again. Life can be a whirl wind at times. Hold On I guess or maybe just let your arms flail that may be better advice.

Everyone needs some down time once in a while. Your turn. Besides, I’m wondering if there aren’t normal cycles of productivity for humans? Like you don’t want a car from the assembly line on a Monday or Friday? Manufacturers shutting down from mid-Nov to the 1st of the year? Squirrels gathering nuts for the winter? Writers pulling down the awnings til the climate is ripe? Just a thought.

Unfortunately, I’m not getting any downtime–the time I saved writing a post is going to other endeavors. But it’s all good–I ain’t complainin’. In fact, I think I’ll go collect some nuts. Good suggestion.

I dropped my paperbacks off to my local bookstore yesterday, and I couldn’t help but feel like a fraud. Do we ever get over this?

You wrote the book because you were driven to write it, needed to write it and now you want people to read it. The only way that can happen is if you let people know it’s available. What is it specifically that makes you feel so ‘bad’ or ‘fraudulent?’ You’ve worked your tail off to get this far with your book.

I’ve heard some really famous authors talk about feeling this way. I could see why you would. Of course I’ve felt this way — I make a joke out of things and say I have a home made book — somehow that works for me! Keep on steppin’ Carrie! I’m glad you’re talking about it at least.

Thanks Sandee. Hopefully my feeling of fraudulence will lessen as I write more, but for now, I feel pretty fake. “Home made” book. I like that.

Thank you. I appreciate hearing that, especially from you. Now I need to start getting to some of those writer’s conferences, but as I lamented to you before, I also have medical and public health conferences to keep up with, and there are only so many times a mother can up and leave.

Did you see him in “Wanderlust”? There was a scene with him talking dirty while looking at himself in the mirror–I was laughing so hard, I literally cried. Felt like a fool in the theater. Then again, what else is new?…

You sure you want a bone thrown at you? That would probably hurt. How about some fluffy marshmellows instead? :)

Thank you. A little break would be nice, but I’m certainly not complaining. I knew I’d have a second phase of marketing tasks when the paperback came out.

And yes, Paul can really move those hips. That guy always makes me laugh. I saw him in the movie “Wanderlust” and actually cried I laughed so hard in one scene. Kind of a naughty film, but I thought it was hilarious.

My favorite Paul Rudd moment is in Forgetting Sarah Marshall when he is teaching Jason Segel how to surf. I can laugh just sitting here in my office thinking about how funny that was.

Thank you. Luckily this one can be shared with younger kids. Some of the other SNL Digital Shorts, not so much (my sons think the D**K in a Box one with Justin Timberlake is hysterical; then again, why wouldn’t a teenage boy find that funny?…)

Cyclones…we have two going on plus a kitchen renovation…so ‘stumbling’ was very appropriate!

Know of anything called ‘seething’…as when the cost of the justice system means we can’t bring brother in law to book for making off with his mother’s money.

Oh, that sounds horrible. How frustrating that must be. ‘Seething’ is right. Sorry, I have nothing for that, but I feel your pain. And a kitchen renovation on top of things. Ick.
