Thank you. I appreciate you reading it. I learned the hard way how important an outline can be. Now I don’t write without one. Weird–in my academic writing, I always used a good outline. Not sure why I initially thought it should be different for fiction!

I have not used outlines in the past, although I can see their value after reading your post. My experiences with 2 NANOs has been that I veer into interesting places that I didn’t expect, or think of, once I started writing a story. I don’t know if I would have arrived there if I followed a hard & fast outline. I will have to try it your way and see what happens.

The cool thing is, I never get boxed in. I still often veer into new directions, but it helps if I have a structure in place should I deviate. But I once wrote a short story by the seat of my pants once, and that was lots of fun!

I’m doing my best not to exhibit contempt prior to investigation concerning outlines. I’ll let you know how it turns out after I try it.
